Below are the best sewing machines for kids to learn on and why:

To start off, I recommend getting something not too expensive but also a machine that will work well. You don’t want your sewing machine breaking on you all the time. I also would buy something fairly simple to use but something that will have the features that your kids may need such as a strait stitch, a zig zag stitch, a zipper foot and a button hole option. These are all the features your child will likely need to use for sewing garments or other things.

Prices vary, but most of these sewing machines are affordable. You will still need to teach your child how to use it properly so that something won’t get broken. I would sit down with them and help them until they get the hang of it.

Here are my recommendations:

BABY LOCK ZEST

The BABY LOCK ZEST is my favourite starter sewing machine. This would be a great beginner sewing machine for kids and includes 15 stitches and a button hole. It comes with 4 sewing feet and is an overall great design. Baby lock is personally one of my favourite sewing machine brands but I’ll also include other brands in this post as well so you can compare for yourself.

BABY LOCK JOY

The BABY LOCK JOY is a great sewing machine for kids to learn on and comes with 19 stitches and includes a button hole and 4 sewing feet. This is another good Baby Lock sewing machine at a lower price and is very simple to use.

BROTHER XM2701

The BROTHER XM2701 is a great beginner sewing machine. It is priced reasonably and this sewing machine includes 27 stitches and 6 sewing feet. This is a small lightweight machine and should have all the features a kid would need to have like a zig zag stitch and and a stretch stitch as well as an auto-size buttonhole.

BROTHER XM1010

The BROTHER XM1010 is another good option for kids to learn on. The BROTHER XM1010 has only 10 stitches and 4 sewing feet which is less than the BROTHER XM2701 but may be all that is needed for a kid to start on. The BROTHER XM1010 also has an auto-size buttonhole.

BROTHER CS5055

The BROTHER CS5055 is a computerized sewing machine with 60 built in stitches, 7 sewing feet and an LCD display. The BROTHER CS5055 also has an auto-size buttonhole. This machine would also be great for kids to start on as it is pretty simple but also is a little more fancy than the BROTHER XM2701 and the BROTHER XM1010.
